SterlingNOW Construction Update – June 2020

Gleason ExpansionConstruction continues in Phase Two of the expansion of the Gleason Physical Education Center. Inside the Wilkey Fieldhouse, the Joe McFarland Family Court has had its final coats of finish applied and is ready for action. The Sterling College Summer Volleyball League will be the first to utilize the court this summer for area high school competition.

The former athletic offices, two classrooms, restrooms and concessions area have been demolished. Concrete is being cut to lay plumbing for the two new locker rooms off the east end of Lonnie Kruse Court and a mechanical room. Electrical is being run in the new concessions area. Framing will begin the first week of June for the new concessions space, apparel shop and locker rooms.

Coaches, faculty and athletic trainers have now moved into their new offices and are utilizing all parts of completed, Phase One construction work. Finishing touches continue in the athletic training hydro room with plumbing and the installation of new whirlpools.

A concrete plume is being dug along the north side of the building that will capture water flowing off the existing and new building. A retention pond has also been built to the west of the Wilkey Fieldhouse to help retain water that will eventually flow out to the west of Sterling.

Projects that will commence in June include landscaping, delivery and installation of weight equipment in the wellness center, installation of furniture in the lobby and creation of the new parking lot south of the Gleason across Cleveland Avenue.
